Typologies Exercises

The purpose of GIABA Typologies Exercises is to help member States better understands recent trends in the laundering of criminal proceeds, emerging threats, and effective countermeasures.

The main objective of Typologies Exercises is to study the practices, trends, risks and vulnerabilities of money laundering and terrorist financing in West Africa.

In 2007, GIABA conducted a Typologies Exercise on cash transactions and cash couriers in the Region. One of the specific objectives of the exercise was to understand the possibility of abuse of cash transactions for the purpose of laundering the proceeds of crime and financing of terrorism.

In 2008, GIABA Typologies Exercise focuses on money laundering through the real estate sector. GIABA Typologies Exercises also lead to publication of report.
