2024 ANNUAL REPORT

GIABA 2024 ANNUAL REPORT

 FOREWORD

I wish to extend warm greetings and profound appreciation to all our stakeholders for working with GIABA during the year 2024. Special thanks to our valuable partners, both technical and financial, and member States who made our work in 2024 a success.  The journey we embarked on together in 2024 led to remarkable outcomes and solidified our bond under a common interest in protecting our national economies and contributing positively to the efforts of the global network in the fight against transnational crimes.

The year was full of attendant challenges, but with oneness of purpose, we did not allow the challenges to define us. We seized the opportunities presented by the challenges to make significant progress during the year under review.

Our resilience and the commitment to provide an enabling platform for the fight against money laundering, terrorist financing and the financing of the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction remain the bedrock of our collective expression of being intolerant to any forms of financial crimes that undermine the economies of the West African region and the world at large.

The period under review witnessed a paradigmatic shift in the design and delivery of many of our programs with a focus on strengthening the capacities of our member states, especially those member states undergoing the FATF ICRG process and to successfully conclude the second round of mutual evaluations. Of note is the exit of the Republic of Senegal from the FATF Grey List and the country’s resolve to continue to demonstrate strong high political commitment to harness the gains made under the ICRG process.

This Annual Report is therefore documented evidence of the activities, and the corresponding outcomes achieved during the year under review. The coordination and delivery of the activities were collective efforts line directorates of the GIABA Secretariat. The intricate woven internal structures of GIABA is a major asset that continues to produce unprecedented outcomes every year.

The 2024 Annual Report has been put together to give readers a peek into the quality of work being presented here with easy-to-follow and leading information on what we achieved.

In line with its core principles, GIABA continued to promote an environment of diversity; cultural sensitivity and pursuit of the development of every staff member, an affirmation that staff remain the foremost and indispensable resource of the GIABA secretariat.

Without being remis, allow me to once again express our appreciation to our regional citizens for the trust reposed in our works geared towards ensuring that our economies are protected from unlawful activities thereby fostering more investments and economic development for the betterment of our citizens.

For and on behalf of GIABA, please accept our best wishes as we look forward to engaging with you in 2025.
