In 2007, GIABA conducted a comprehensive Technical Assistance Needs Assessment (TANA) of its member States. The TANA was aimed at determining specific targets for intervention with a view to making maximum impact in strengthening the regional AML/CFT framework. The TANA also sought to give clarity on various government policies, ongoing and planned programs and activities in relation to anti-corruption and the control of economic and financial crimes. The TANA has provided a better understanding of the unique circumstances of the region and a framework for giving technical assistance, avoiding duplication and maximizing comparative advantage. It has also provided member States with the information to enable them introduce new policies and legal framework as a result of the self-assessment.
