AWARENESS DAY AND ADVOCACY MISSION TO THE TOGOLESE MEDIA

The Intergovernmental Action Group against Money Laundering in West Africa (GIABA) is organizing, from March 20 to 21, 2024 in Lomé (Togo), an awareness day for journalists and an advocacy mission to the Togolese media.

The objective of this meeting is to exploit the potential of the media to increase awareness on issues related to the fight  against Money Laundering and Countering the Financing of Terrorism (AML/CFT); to create an alliance with journalists for better dissemination of information on AML/CFT regimes and on GIABA's missions; to increase the interest of media officials on issues relating to economic and financial crimes and their role; liaise with the media to educate the population on the nefarious impact of ML/TF; and to generate public interest in supporting the efforts led by GIABA.

The media constitute the backbone in the promotion of good governance. GIABA, recognizing their role, would like to contribute to the ongoing reflections on the domestic, regional, and international levels to protect States against economic and financial crimes, violent extremism, radicalism and transnational organized crime, namely ML /FT.

In total, 25 journalists will benefit from this session dedicated to the role of the media in the fight against economic and financial crimes, while the Director General of GIABA will carry out an advocacy visit to five (5) media outlets for their full involvement in the fight.
